Beside/s: It’s not enough to ask the tough questions. We must struggle to try and answer them, or at least learn how to live with them. When I was formally teaching, I loved asking lots of questions. Oftentimes the questions were abstract and based on an intellectual curiosity. I didn’t always think about the effects of my questions or what it might mean or cost to try and answer them. Taking up some of my own questions and doing the very difficult labor of feeling their force and facing how they are haunting has humbled me, reminding me to be careful and deliberate with the questions I ask to others.
